Blood pressure is the force at which blood moves through your arteries as the heart beats. Hypertension is also referred to as high blood pressure, and it's usually measured with two numbers: systolic which occurs when the heart beats, and diastolic which is between heart beats. Normal blood pressure levels are considered to be less than 120/80, and pre-hypertension or borderline high blood pressure is between 120/80 and 139/89. Above those levels is hypertension, and that is also divided into stage one and two. Stage two high blood pressure is the most dangerous, and it's usually measured at 160/100 or higher. The American Heart Association estimates one out of every three Americans has hypertension, and at least a third of them don't even know it. Since hypertension can lead to heart attack, stroke, and kidney failure, this disease is often refered to as the silent killer.
