Happy Herbal Mother's DayMost women have full time jobs, too many responsibilities, and a to do list a mile long. If this sounds like your Mom, why not do something for her rather than just buying a gift? Most women would prefer spending quality time with their loved ones rather than just receiving a gift that may be regifted anyway. Besides, the gifts I’m suggesting will help de-stress Mom, and for that, she’ll truly be appreciative.

Herbal Tea

Drinking tea is a great way to relax. It forces you to slow down and relax which is what a busy woman needs. A great herb for women is lemon balm (Melissa officinalis), especially for women experiencing the hot flashes and night sweats associated with menopause. Lemon balm is also good for anyone experiencing PMS symptoms, or stress due to frayed nerves. It’s available in teas, tinctures, oils, and soaps.

Herbal Foot Bath

Another great thing you can do for mom is to give her an herbal foot bath. Anyone getting an herbal foot bath will immediately feel like shes being taken care of. Again, just like herbal tea, it forces you to slow down.

Practitioners of reflexology believe the feet are conduits to the body’s ailments. Each spot on the foot corresponds to an area of the body, so an herbal foot bath will leave the recipient with an overall feeling of wellbeing. There are several good choices for an herbal foot bath–I’ve already mentioned the benefits of lemon balm. Other good choices are:

* Gotu Kola enhances your dream time. It brings clarity and enlightenment to ideas and thoughts, so it’s a good herb for anyone who is feeling muddled.


* Meadowsweet is a European herb associated with Goddesses. Meadowsweet brings you joy in your sexuality which I can’t imagine anyone not finding useful.

* Mugwort blooms when the sun goes down. Mugwort helps regulate menstrual cycles and helps reduce water retention.

You can either make a big pot of herbal tea and pour that into the foot bath or add a tincture of the herb to warm water.

After the foot bath, massage an herbal oil onto the feet. Rosemary is a good choice for this. Rosemary opens the heart to love.

Herbal Sachet

Herbal sachets are a great idea for children to do because they make a great craft project. You’ll need baking soda (bicarbonate of soda), lemon zest, peppermint tea, and scented essence oils–I like bergamot. Zest the lemon into a bowl, add the contents of two tea bags, two tablespoons of baking soda, and six drops of essence oil. Mix the ingredients and put them into a piece of cheesecloth. Tie it with a pretty ribbon.
